About Me
Ben Kirby - 22, Birmingham
I've been involved in film-making since 2012, first starting off filming my uncle's wedding. Ever since then I've fallen in love with film. I've used any excuse to pick up a camera and start filming whatever springs to mind. I'm constantly motivated and driven to improve my portfolio as I'm sorely determined to make it in the industry that I've become so attached to over the years.
The amount of experience I've picked up has abetted with my confidence and drive within the field. It's allowed me explore different avenues within the filming industry and I'm now secure in knowing what I want to do.
After an illustrious opportunity at BT Sports as an Editor and Camera man and working in the marketing and content creations department with Aspire2Be, I feel as though I'm in an incredibly positive position in 2021 and looking to push forward as much as I can.
My skills don't waiver there either. I'm very experienced in the Adobe suite. Specifically Photoshop, Premiere and After Effects. After over five years of experience on each of these I feel I am in a very good position to push for a job that'll be nurturing for my career and help me further progress as a professional film-maker. If you'd like to know more about myself and other sides of my unrelenting ambition, then please check out my Personal Development Plan.
Ambition
Writing
Although I've acquired a skills set within Sports Broadcasting my main ambition is with creative writing. I'm also in the midst of creating my own short films. Writing has been a new found passion of mine, with my commitment and drive I can see myself going far. I've already created three screenplays that I'm beginning to craft plans on to complete throughout 2021.
This will be alongside my pursuit of a career within sports broadcasting, as I'm still keeping my experience fresh by working for Aspire2Be. The short film I'm creating at the moment is in the early stages but I'm releasing it later on in the year. I've also began conversing with, Birmingham based, film director Simon Cox about some of his projects such as 'Written in Blood' and, his latest film, 'Invasion Planet Earth'.
I hope to learn about the film making process from him as I'm extremely impressed with how ambitious he was with his latest film. I'm also now getting involved with local writing groups around my area. 'Solihull Writers' is a workshop I've been in communications with more recently and have already received some feedback and constructive criticism on some of my work. It's been perfect for me to be able to talk to the people I need to who can help me improve in these areas of my work and I continue to do so for the foreseable future.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN ARTEFACT
Sports Broadcasting
One of my many skillsets is within Sports Broadcasting which is something I've nurtured consistently since 2017, when I first started with BT Sports as an editor and cameraman. I've now branched off however, managing the social media pages for Aspire2Be and creating a documentary on the use of social media in 2020.
These positions have taught me how to manage intense and unpredictable circumstances where my ability to adapt and adjust to sudden change has been tested. However, because of these intense experiences I am now much more equipped and skilled at dealing with these situations and know I have what it takes to go to the next level.
I've got an irrefutable hunger to succeed and I'd say my work is an example of my ambition, diversity, versatility and willingness to succeed within many aspects of the media world.
